Our Mission
Here at Piaget's Preschool, we are focused on using the teachings of both Piaget and his finding on the Stages of Cognitive Development to facilitate the proper development of children between the ages of 3 and 5. We surround the children in an atmosphere of both excitement and fun while at the same time enhancing their mental development in unparalleled ways. Also, we engage them in fun and thrilling activities that will enable them to develop their social skills with others of their age while at the same time further establishing the practices of Piaget within them.
Why ages 3 - 5?
According to Jean Piaget, a Swiss developmental scientist ,who helped to establish the Stages of Cognitive Development which are widely recognized in the developmental psychological world, children of ages 3 - 5 are in the middle of what is known as the Preoperational Stage. During this stage, children go through a tremendous amount of development in all areas of health: Intellectually, Physically, Socially, Emotionally and even Spiritually. At age 3, children may know approximately 300 words ,but by age 5, they should know approximately 2,500 words. That is over 8 times as many words. Physical development also begins as they begin to learn how to hop, climb, swing, and motor skills greatly improve overall. Social Development enhances as they begin to use the words they learn from what they hear around them to better communicate with others. Emotional development enhances as they being to become attached to their imaginary friends and fantasies. Spiritual development enhances as their active imaginations yields to a deep yearning to learn more about the world and good vs evil, right vs wrong, and they also begin to pick up the spiritual language of their family.
So, what does all of this mean? It is to show that there is a great deal of development going on and because of this, it is especially important to care of a child during this phase as what they learn now will become the foundation of who they are.
